Back-to-School Bonanza Success
The New Auchentoroly Terrace Association’s Back-To-School Bonanza held on Sunday, August 20, 2017 at the Liberty Pavilion in Druid Hill Park, was a huge success. Special thanks to MECU for the Neighborhood Event Grant. Many thanks to the awesome committee of volunteers that helped organize the event. Also, a special thanks to Tim Regan, President and CEO of Whiting-Turner Contracting Company for their generous donation. Dr. Lawrence Bell and Sanjay Thomas also provided monetary donations. Our youth and residents had a fun-filled day in the park.
We provided our youth with book bags filled with school supplies. Plants in recycled plastic bottle containers by the Howard P. Rawlings Conservatory were a huge hit with youth and adults. The BCFD Engine 52 offered tours of the fire truck. Enoch Pratt Library and Friends of Druid Hill Park provided free books/literature. In addition, the little ones really enjoyed the face painting by LaTosha. Dr.Tomicka Jackson-George donated 100 dental hygiene kits and delicious apples were donated by Diveley’s Fruit Farm. The Maryland Zoo had hands-on activities and resources/literature, and Bikemore’s mobile bike shop helped families repair numerous bicycles. Rails-to-Trails Conservatory had resources/literature about the Baltimore Greenway Trails Coalition plan for a 35-miles bike/walking path around the city. Total Health Care also provided informational literature and giveaways. Youth enjoyed treats from Aden Deli & Grocery. H&S Bakery donated hotdog rolls.
Several elected officials and GMCC affiliates attended to support us: State Senator Barbara A. Robinson, Delegate Antonio Hayes and Councilman Leon Pinkett. Neighboring GMCC Presidents: Sandra Almond Cooper; MNIA and Adeline Hutchinson, Robert W. Coleman were present as well. Our association will continue to encourage community engagement and collaboration with great partners/supporters. We all can make a difference!
Much appreciation to the Back-to-School Bonanza Organizing Committee members: ATA President Ms. Barbara Anderson-Dandy, Event Chairperson Graham Coreil-Allen, Vivian Comer, Corinne Litchfield, Darlene Dorsey, Brenda Simmons, Donna Cypress, and Bernadette Tanzymore. Thanks also to Will and Joe for grilling.
