Make Mondawmin Streets Safer for Walking & Biking!

Druid Hill Farmers Market

UPDATE: Due to rain, this event has been rescheduled to July 27th!

ATA and Mondawmin leaders are working with Rails-to-Trails and Bikemore to draw attention to the difficult conditions for walking and biking around Mondawmin by combining public art and activities with a fun, festive, community driven event. All are invited to join us for a walk and discussion meeting at 5pm on Wednesday, July 27, at the Druid Hill Farmers Market. During this walk we will identify key intersections where we can use creative programming to better connect our neighborhood with Druid Hill Park and the Mondawmin transit center. Bring your ideas and let’s make our streets safer!

Purpose of the events:

  1. Draw attention to the difficult conditions for walking and biking through a fun festive, community driven process.
  2. Use the events to showcase solutions to the difficulties of getting between all of the amenities in the neighborhood.
  3. Engage the community, have fun, show that changes can be made to make safe streets for everyone a reality.

Event ideas presented by community members yesterday:

  • temporary art installations
  • temporary crosswalks and curb bump-outs
  • temporary crossing guards
  • parade/street festival/fair
  • temporary road closures for bike rides and walks
  • create signage to slow traffic, and draw attention to ped/bike
  • bus tours (a west side circulator)
